Wraight Child and Youth Counselling is a safe space for children and youth to explore their thoughts, emotions, peer conflicts or bullying situations. Vanessa is a CYC that specializes in mental heath and wellness through play, talk and multi-media. She can help your child or youth learn about their brain, how it works and how to change their thought patterns. Clients can learn how to be more positive, grow self-esteem, challenge negative thinking, practice social skills and deal with bullying.

Vanessa has training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Behaviour Management and Tracking, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Play Therapy. She will take bits and pieces from each of these models to create a plan that works for you and your child/youth. She also has extensive community connections and can direct parents/guardians in how to appropriately and effectively advocate for services their child/youth may require.

Vanessa has worked in various areas of the Child and Youth field, including residential care, SNAP, supervised access and school settings. When working in these settings she noticed a significant need for individual counselling services for children and youth who are experiencing difficulties regulating emotions, struggling with mental health or experiencing peer conflict.

Vanessa continues to engage in furthering her education as a CYC through attending courses in play therapy and other modes of counselling to enhance her ability to help her clients in a fun, creative and permission of the child/youth to help navigate difficult conversations, go over sessions with parents, or to help parents understand any skills that are recommended to be practiced in order to help coach their child or youth through difficult situations. Parents or clients are always welcome to reach out for in-the-moment coaching or helping clients emotionally regulate.

In her spare time, Vanessa enjoys volunteer coaching her local special needs hockey & soccer team, as well as fishing and spending time outdoors with her family.
